Cocoa, but Not Tea, Has Salubrious Effect on Blood Pressure
Clinically significant lowering of blood pressure occurs after cocoa ingestion, but not after black or green tea, according to a meta-analysis in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
Blood pressure in the cocoa consumers declined by 4.7 mm Hg systolic and 2.8 diastolic, compared with cocoa-free controls. The researchers point however, that most cocoa products are high in sugar, fat, and calories and say their results should "not encourage common recommendations to consume more cocoa."
